Raipur. Concerned and cornered over the swelling corona caseload, the government of Chhattisgarh has imposed a night curfew in 20 districts including capital Raipur and its neighboring steel city Durg-Bhilai .
After initial hesitation, the anxious Bhupesh Baghel led government decided to impose tough curbs to control the surging pandemic which raced past the national average this month. District Collectors have been empowered with authority to take a call on the imposition of tough measures depending upon the situation of pandemic prevailing in their districts.
The District Collectors of Raipur, Ambikapur, Jashpur, Bastar, Durg, Mahasamund, Raigarh, Korea, Sukma, and Rajnandgaon have imposed a night curfew in these districts. This curfew shall remain in force from 8 pm to 8 am beginning on Tuesday till the next order. All commercial establishments, grocery stores, malls. Chowpatty venue, cinema halls, market places shall remain open only till 8 pm.
The timing of curfew will be slightly different in some districts. However, emergency services like medical institutes, medical stores, petrol pumps will be exempted from curfew curbs, Jagdalpur district collector, Rajat Bansal said.
The swelling corona caseload has assumed frightening dimensions in the state, forcing the health apparatus to act swiftly. Durg district has emerged as the worst corona affected. The situation is so alarming that 108 cases of COVID-19 positive have been detected from a small village in Durg today. Eateries will also not be allowed to function during curfew time and punitive action will be taken against the violators.
