Dehradun, 04 July. Pushkar Singh Dhami took oath as the 11th Chief Minister of Uttarakhand on Sunday.

Governor Baby Rani Maurya administered him the oath of office and secrecy in a ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan this evening. BJP MLAs Satpal Maharaj, Harak Singh Rawat, Bansidhar Bhagat and Yashpal Arya also took oath as ministers in his cabinet. Oath was also administered to Bishan Singh Chufal, Subodh Uniyal, Arvind Pandey, Ganesh Joshi, Dhan Singh Rawat, Rekha Arya and Swami Yateeshwaranand. All these leaders were also part of the previous cabinets.

Dhami, 45, was chosen to take over the state reins at the BJP’s legislature party meeting on Saturday. He has been made the CM in place of Tirath Singh Rawat, whose four-month term had ended amid the uncertainty surrounding the by-elections in the state. BJP MP Rawat had to be elected as an MLA within six months of taking office in order to continue in his post.

The party had to press all its fire fighting skills in service to persuade other contenders for the chief minister’s post who were unhappy with the party’s decision to elevate Dhami for the top job. Nevertheless, BJP did not face much difficulty in controlling the situation and persuading the sulking leaders. Before his oath, Dhami himself met some of the leaders who were said to be upset over his appointment.
The newsly appointed CM met Satpal Maharaj at his Dalanwala residence and convinced him. Satpal Maharaj, who was inducted in the saffron party from the Congress, was among half a dozen leaders who were being counted as possible candidates for the chief minister’s post till Saturday.
